Hi! I'm Lars

Since this is the About page, let’s start with the basics.

I’m based in Prague, Czech Republic — I’ve been here long enough to call it Home.

I’m a designer by education. I went to an art(tsy fancy) high school, then followed that up with a BA in Industrial Design at UAD in Cluj-Napoca, Romania — the city where I was born. During and after university I worked across a few different areas of design. While still studying I worked as an interior designer at an architecture firm, which gave me a solid foundation in thinking about space and proportion, after which i worked as a graphic designers for a couple of small studios.

After graduating, I was lucky enough to be taken under the wings of two remarkable people — one a graphic designer with a specialization in lino-gravure, the other a designer with an incredible angry forehead vein. Working alongside them from 2010 until my move to Prague, I got to touch all sorts of projects, from branding to web and print.

Prague is where I found my footing as a designer in the digital space. The city pushed me to think more seriously about UI and UX — both on the web and in the world around me. In 2016 that path led me to RFE/RL, where I joined their in-house development team Pangea as a web designer. I worked through a full transition to responsive design, contributed to an in-house CMS, and worked on mobile and TV applications. More importantly, I had the privilege of working for and alongside remarkable journalists — people whose work genuinely matters. That meant constantly learning context: history, cultures, traditions and the nuances that come with communicating across the many languages and regions RFE/RL serves. It made me a better designer and, honestly, a more thoughtful person.
